North And Middle Caicos

About The Island

About

North Caicos and Middle Caicos are found in the center of the Turks and Caicos archipelago, and represents to the two largest islands connected by a 1-mile long road causeway, so they function as one. Once the  home to extensive cotton and sisal plantations, traditional agriculture is still carried out by local farms producing tomatoes, peppers, melons, bananas, sugar cane and papaya. The perfect destination for the adventurous or those seeking a serene beach vacation. There are miles of beautiful secluded beaches and rugged ocean cliffs which line the north coasts of the islands, the most spectacular of which is Mudjjn Harbour Beach. There are countless unnamed private beaches just waiting to be discovered. Caicos Beach Villa is located in one of the most pristine sections of Sandy Point Beach in Sandcastle Estates. Whether it’s snorkeling, diving, shell combing, hiking, kayaking or stand-up paddling, there is plenty to explore.

Getting Here

Your Perfect Getaway

Getting Here

There are regularly scheduled public transport passenger ferries between Providenciales and North and Middle Caicos (Carribean Cruisn‘ and MV My Ferry Girl Service – telephone) which travel between Heaving Down Rock on Providenciales and Bellefield Landing on North Caicos (please be aware that the Bellefield Landing has replaced Sandy Point as the new port on North Caicos and is undergoing new and exciting development to help accommodate visitors better). Ferry travel time is only 20-30 minutes, but crosses over amazing turquoise water and by incredible scenery along the coasts of famous cays,  including Parrot Cay, Pine Cay and Dellis Cay.
There are no scheduled flights, but North Caicos Airport (NCA) is still open for charter flights and special occasions. Flight time is only 10-15 minutes.

North Caicos has two marinas, both located on the western coast, to which you can charter a private ride from Providenciales with Al’s – or Caribbean Cruisin – Bellefield Landing has been the industrial and fishing port of North Caicos but has undergone re-development accommodating a new welcome centre, including a restaurant, Caribbean Cruisin office and 2 gift shops. The second marina (private) is located at Sandy Point, less from 5 minutes away from Caicos Beach Villa. There is an onsite restaurant, Green Island Cafe, and a new development is under way called Sandy Point Resort, which includes a nearly finished restaurant by celebrity chef, Todd English.

Getting Around & Transport:

Transportation on North and Middle Caicos are limited to rental cars, jeeps and taxis; there is no public transport. Because attractions and stores tend to be spread out, it’s highly recommended that you rent a vehicle for the duration of your stay (Turquoise Rent A Car, Al’s Rent A Car, Caribbean Cruisin). There are 3 gas stations on North Caicos, but none on Middle Caicos, so fueling up before exploring Middle Caicos is highly suggested.
In terms of tours, we HIGHLY recommend M and M Tours (telephone). Owned and operated by Mac Campbell, his infinite knowledge of the islands and his friendly, personalized approach really provide an amazing experience for anyone looking to explore North and Middle Caicos.

North Caicos Beaches

sandy point beach

Sandy Point Beach

Caicos Beach Villa is located directly on Sandy Point Beach, which is less than 5 minutes from Sandy Point Marina. The northern end of the channel between North Caicos and Parrot Cay has filled in over the last few years, so there’s now incredible sandbars, clear water and shallows. You can snorkel right from the shore for miles, and depending on the season, you can see starfish, turtles, sting rays, a variety of fish species, live conch, sea horses, and so much more. Spend your days in the warm shallow waters, combing for a variety of shells, or when the tide is out, walking various sandbars beckoning one to explore. It’s rated as a 5-star beach.

Flamingoes

Flamingoes are indigenous to the Turks and Caicos Islands. North Caicos and Middle Caicos both offer a great probability of spotting flamingos. On North Caicos, Flamingo Pond Overlook near Whitby offers the best chances, and is the best easily accessible spot in the country where you could expect to see large numbers – these is also a beautiful visitors shop here, all funds go towards the preservation of flamingoes’ natural habitat. Also on North Caicos are Pumpkin Bluff Pond and Mud Pond, which are expansive and shallow ponds on the north-western side of North Caicos, and definitely worth at least a quick visit by birdwatchers visiting our central Garden Islands. A road leads along the northern side of the pond and allows for great views, so no hiking is necessary. Sightings typically include flamingos, West Indian Whistling ducks, white-cheeked pintail ducks, stilts, reddish egrets, tricolored herons, and more. On Middle Caicos, the rather small Village Pond and Montpeller Pond, which are located between the communities of Conch Bar and Bambarra often have a few flamingos to see.

Whales

The majestic annual migration of humpbacks happens just off the shore of North and Middle Caicos annually over the winter months. They can be seen from many beaches on North and Middle but are best viewing point is from Mudjin Harbour. Whales that pass by here on their way to their winter breeding grounds in the Dominican Republic from Canadian waters. These graceful and majestic giants are a wonder to behold and come close by all our islands.

Sea Turtles

Sandy Point – One of the best places to see sea turtles is on our beach. There is a turtle nursery to the left of the villa – where the beach bends into a crescent. Walk here at low tide to see their little heads poke above water, kayak with them or perhaps see one while quietly snorkelling through their home. Another great place to spot turtles is on a mangrove kayak tour, or on Bambarra Beach. We see them all year round, but the best time to explore the Underwater World here on the islands is during summer, when sea water temperatures stay close to 80 degrees Fahrenheit. The warm weather attracts an abundance of aquatic life closer to the surface and many excellent opportunities to spot majestic creatures like manta rays, moray eels and sharks. In the winter, the water temperature drops down a touch into the mid to high 70s, which of course is still quite balmy but some of the larger more complex sea life will be hanging out at a lower depth.

Sandbars

Sandbars are popular but not plentiful in TCI. Most have to take private tours to access sandbars BUT we are fortunate to have our own sand bars to the left of the beach (when looking at the ocean). Be sure to check these out at low tide when they become visible.

caicos fishing

Fishing

Recreational fishing is amazing in the Turks and Caicos Islands, especially for bone fishing and flats fishing. In particular, the Caicos Bank shallows of North Caicos and Middle Caicos are unparalleled for saltwater fly and spin fisherman to find tarpon, bonefish and barracuda. If you are looking for edible snappers, groupers, jacks and yellowtail, the channels between many of the islands, the north coast barrier reef and the Caicos Banks reef shoals are great choices; most of which right off the beach at Caicos Beach Villa. The causeway between North and Middle Caicos offers great spots for shore fishing and easy accessibility. Visitors are required to be in possession of a valid fishing license, but costs only $10 daily or $30 monthly; these can be purchased on Providenciales before coming to North Caicos. Many of the businesses often include any necessary licenses for you. Check out One Stop Sporting Shop for private fishing tours at dhandfield@gmail.com. Caribbean Cruisin and Al’s also offer fishing tours.

Snorkeling

The Caicos Barrier Reef offers an amazing array of wildlife and healthy hard and soft corals, much of which can be done right off shore at Caicos Beach Villa. The shallow reef locations tend to be the best for snorkeling. Schools of parrotfish, bluehead wrasse, yellowtail snapper, horse-eye jacks, French grunts and blue tangs are common. Larger fish and animals like brown stingrays, eagle rays, green turtles, hawksbill turtles, spiny lobsters, nurse sharks, barracudas and dolphins can also be seen. The best snorkeling locations on North and Middle Caicos include Three Marys Cay, Mudjin Harbour and Conch Bar Beach, BUT these area are very dependent on weather and wave conditions. We strongly recommend a reputable tour company like like Twin Island Tours, Spot On E-Bike, Caribbean Cruisin, Al’s, or any of the private boat charter companies. Sandy Point beach is a great place to begin your snorkelling adventure. On a regular basis I see sea turtles, starfish, a plethora of fish, sting rays and so much more.
